The boat for the expedition, the Zeeman Challenger, was entirely custom-built by Maurits Oud. This means that the expedition had already started in 2005 for Ralph. Considerations regarding watermakers, rowing positions, hatches, safety resources, power generation, what are the best solar panels, wind generator, rescue raft and which kind of trailer: the boat clearly holds no secrets for him. This website provides a photo album about the making of the boat. In addition to his boat, he should also be able to completely rely on the (inbuilt) maritime communications systems. The hypermodern satellite communications system is by no means a luxury for an unsupported expedition like this one. Thanks to this system this will also be an expedition where the home front is kept up-to-date in real time. Food and drink, the fuel for this expedition of an estimated 10 months, are also among the most important critical factors. |
